French Spitfire PR.19 damaged upon landing

On July 5, Supermarine Spitfire PR.19 (F-AZJS) was damaged upon landing. According to some sources, the aircraft was landing after having experienced engine problems. On this YouTube video, it can be seen nearly nosing over on touchdown. The propeller was shattered, and the engine will have to be inspected for shock damage. Aside from this, no other damage is apparent on the aircraft.

You sound like a man of experience!! how hard is it to read, It was landing after engine problems occurred that’s why it almost crashed. Probably the experience of the pilot saved him from more serious problems.. So next time read the story before you react…

Could have been worse, seems lucky not to have gone up on the nose. Spitfires can pick up high sink rates if power was a problem, or power was lost on very short final. I was landing the SAAF Museum Spitfire Mk IX and during a curved aaproach noticed I was getting low on short final. The poor forward and downwards view can mask this at times. I remember being quite surprised at how much power I needed, to reduce the ROD. The only strange thing here is the pilot applying power after landing? Not too good for a possibly damaged engine/reduction box?? Must surely have felt the prop strike/seen pieces fly off?
