The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Avro Lancaster suffered an in-flight fire on its #4 engine during a training flight on May 7. The crew managed to land the aircraft safely at RAF Coningsby.

The extent of the damage suffered by the aircraft is unknown but it will not be able to participate in the commemorations for the 70th anniversary of VE-Day.

Niether it was Thumper Mk111 operated by the BBMF.
Just Jane is not airworthy yet.

  2. We were led to believe that Just Jane was part of the dual meeting when the Canadians flew the Atlantic. Then I assume when and if Just Jane gets her Air Worthiness Cert, there then will be 3 in the air?

Nah that was Thumper Mk111 (UK) and VERA (Canada) and yes when she’s airworthy she’ll be one of three 🙂 assuming this one’s repaired which it appears she will be. Only engine dramas the fire didnt get to the wings.
But I do believe Jane has alot more than just a Cert to get her airborne.
