<p>Frank Losonsky, the last known survivor of the American Volunteer Group, better known as the &#8220;Flying Tigers&#8221;, passed away on 6 February 2020, aged 99.</p>
<p>Having served two years in the US Army Air Corps, Losonsky became a crew chief with the 3rd Squadron of the Flying Tigers in 1941.  After the group was disbanded in 1942, he returned to the his home town in Detroit where he got married. He later returned to China as a mechanic with China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC) flying the &#8220;Hump&#8221; before returning to the US again. After his service, he joined TransAsiatic Airlines in Burma and became a pilot.</p>

<p>Nine Curtiss P-40 will attend the 3rd annual CAF Atlanta Warbird Weekend on September 24 &amp; 25 for the 75th anniversary of the American Volunteer Group, better known as the &#8220;Flying Tigers&#8221;. This will be the largest gathering of P-40 in recent times.</p>
<p>The event, hosted by the Dixie Wing, will take place at Dekalb-Peachtree Airport and many other warbirds will also be attending. World War II veterans, authors, 1940s Hollywood entertainers and reenactors will be present at the event, which is presented not as an airshow but as a warbird display and history education event, with aircraft rides available.</p>

By the time he left the AVG in 1942, he was credited with three confirmed aerial victoires, two probables and destroyed 6 aircraft on the ground.</p>
<p>After the war, Ken Jerstedt settled in Hood River, Oregon, where the local airfield was renamed after him. He was the mayor of Hood River for several years and was always involved in the local political scene.<span id="more-1827"></span></p>
