The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 Werk Nr. 410077, under restauration by Midwest Aero Restorations Ltd and belonging to Bruce Winter of San Antonio, Texas, has had its first engine run since 1943, in Danville, Illinois.

Midwest Aero Ltd has posted this video of the engine runs on its YouTube channel.

Hangar 10 shared two photos on its Facebook page showing the first flight of Bf 109G-6 “Black 8”, a veteran of JG 27 powered by a DB 605 engine. The flight took place from Heringsdorf airport on the Usedom island in Germany, with Klaus Plasa at the controls.

The last surviving HA-1112-M4L Buchón (G-AWHC), a twin-seater variant of the Buchón, flew again yesterday at Sywell Aerodrome in the UK. Richard Grace was at the controls and made two flights.The aircraft was part of Connie Edwards’ collection, which was sold in 2014.

Allison-engined Bf 109 of the Erickson Aircraft Collection flies

On April 22, John Romain made the first flight of Bf 109G-10 registered N90602 in Madras, Oregon. It is a Hispano Buchón, re-engined with an Allison engine.

The engine cowlings are identical to those of wartime Bf 109G, giving the aircraft an identical appearance. The only visible difference is that the propeller is a shortened DC-3 propeller. This choice of engine offers several advantages. The Allison engine is far more available and cheap than the original DB 605 engine, with more readily available spare parts as well as cheaper operating costs and easier maintenance.

First engine runs for Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar’s Bf 109E

The Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar’s Messerschmitt Bf 109E “White 14” recently made its first engine tests. The aircraft was built in 1939 and lost in 1942 on the Russian front. It was salvaged in 1992 and changed hands several times before reaching the UK where it is being restored and should fly again soon.

Hangar10’s Messerschmitt Bf 109G-12, a Hispano Aviación Buchón restored to the G-12 standard by Meier Motors using an original DB 605 engine, made its first flight on August 4 with Charlie Brown at the controls.

This rare twin-seat variant of the German fighter will be used to train Bf 109 and Buchón pilots.

Military Aviation Museum’s Bf 109G flies in the US

On May 20, the Military Aviation Museum’s Bf 109G du Military Aviation Museum made its first flight since it arrived in the US. The aircraft is a Hispano Buchón restored by Meier Motors and powered by a DB 605 engine salvaged on a Bf 110, making it an approximation of Bf 109G-4/G-5. It is painted in the colours of the aircraft flown by Hptm. Klaus Quaet-Faslem, Kommandeur of I./JG 3.

On December 30, 2015, the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 “Black 8” WkNr 440738 made its first post-restauration engine runs on the former airbase of Bremgarten, Germany. The aircraft flew with JagdGeschwader 27 when it crashed on 29 May 1944. Its restauration began in 2007 in Austria.

In 2013, it was acquired by the Air Fighter Academy in Zirchow, Germany, which continued the restoration with Meier Motors. “Black 8” will be the only airworthy Bf 109G-6.
