Pilot injured in Vintage Wings of Canada FG-1D Corsair landing accident

Vintage Wings of Canada’s Goodyear FG-1D Corsair was damaged when it departed the runway during landing at Gatineau Executive Airport in Québec, Canada, on 3 July 2019. John Aitken, who was at the controls, suffered a broken rib and a broken nose but is expected to recover fully.

The extent of the damage suffered by the Corsair is unknown but Paul Tremblay, chief mechanic at VWoC, said that “we’ll definitely be able to get it going again”. The aircraft was expected to attend the Thunder over Michigan airshow in August, with up to 10 Corsairs attending.

F4U-5N Corsair flies again in France

The Vought F4U-5N Corsair (BuNo 124724, registered F-AZEG) of the Casques de Cuir flew again yesterday in La Ferté-Alais, south of Paris, after a ten-year restauration.

This aircraft was built in 1951 and served with the US Navy before being bought by Honduras and serving during the “Soccer War”. It was later transferred to the civilian market and reached France in 1986.

CAF Dixie Wing FG-1D Corsair flies again

After spending several months during which “a Firewall forward restoration and engine change were completed”, the CAF Dixie Wing’s FG-1D Corsair flew again on August 15 with Thom Richard at the controls from the Kissimmee airport in Florida.

The pilot of Chance-Vought F4U-5N Corsair (registered VH-III) made a wheels-up landing during the Hunter Valley Airshow at Maitland Airfield in Australia. Little information is currently available, but the footage seems to suggest the pilot was unharmed and that damage to the aircraft was kept to a minimum.

Tri-State Aviation F2G Super Corsair flies again

(Updated July 21) Tri-State Aviation Inc.’s F2G Super Corsair (NX5577N) flew again on July 19. The pilot for the flight was Bob Odegaard. A P-51 was used as a chase plane, from which this video of the first flight was shot:

F4U-5NL first post-restoration flight

F4U-5NL BuNo 125541 (F-AZYS) flew its first post-restoration flight on May 5, 2011 with Achim Meier at the controls. The aircraft was previously in F4U-7 configuration and carried French Navy colours.

The restoration to its original configuration and colours was carried out by Meier Motors in Germany.
