The Norwegian Spitfire Foundation’s Hawker Sea Fury T.20 G-INVN was involved in an accident today near Duxford in the UK. Fortunately, the pilot and his passenger only suffered minor injuries.

The aircraft was seriously damaged, as can be seen on the accident photos. The causes of the accident are not yet known. The Imperial War Museum indicated that the Sea Fury had to make a “false landing” (more likely a forced landing) and “sustained significant damage and a fuel leak”.

The Hawker Sea Fury T.20 G-RNHF flew again on September 1st in North Weald with Lt Cdr Chris Gotke at the controls. Gotke was awarded the Air Force Cross for saving the aircraft after an engine failure in 2014.

The aircraft is loaned by the Fly Navy Heritage Trust to the Royal Navy Historic Flight. After the 2014 accident, it was rebuilt and received a new Centaurus 18 engine.

Nelson Ezell of Ezell Aviation and his passenger Dustin Mayfield were injured in an accident involving Hawker Sea Fury N254SF on July 25 near Stephen County Airport in Breckenridge, Texas . Details concerning the accident are unavailable, with conflicting versions being provided by media.

More to the point, Breckenridge American reports the following about the health of Ezell and Mayfield:

Ezell sustained serious but not critical injuries, while Mayfield’s injuries were less serious, according to the men’s wives.

We wish both men a speedy recovery.

Continue reading]]> The Hawker Sea Fury T.20 VX281 operated by the Royal Navy Historical Flight was damaged in an emergency landing during an airshow at RNAS Culdrose on Friday July 31st. The pilot was able to land the aircraft but the main landing gear failed and the aircraft exited the runway and ended its landing run on its belly.

The causes of the accident are not yet known and an investigation has been launched.

Continue reading]]> The Sea Fury T. Mk 20 “Dreadnought”, well known for its performances at the reno Air Races, was involved in a mid-air collision with a Cessna 210 over California. Both aircraft were returning from the Pacific Coast Dream Machines airshow when they collided. The Cessna 210 was seen falling into San Pablo bay. Although some wreckage was found by rescuers, the pilot is still missing. The Sea Fury was able to land at Eagle’s Nest in northern California, and the crew of two was unhurt.

Update (May 2, 2014): Sadly but not unexpectedly, the pilot of the Cessna 210 has been confirmed killed in the accident. His body and the aircraft have finally been recovered in San Pablo Bay. (Source)
