EAA Bleriot XI first flight

EAA’s reproduction of a 1909 Bleriot XI, powered by a 1909 Anzani engine, made its maiden flight on Sunday June 5, 2011 in Oshkosh. The pilot was Tom Hegy. Read the report on the EAA website. Also of interest are the photo gallery and the test plan.

First flight of Collings Foundation Me 262

(Updated June 5) “White 1′, the Collings Foundation’s Messerschmitt Me 262 has flown on June 2, 2011, piloted by John Penney. The flight lasted half an hour and was successful. Pictures of the flight can be found on the Colling Foundation’s Facebook page and an in-cockpit video can be seen on Youtube (see below).

Buchon flies again in Duxford

On May 6, 2011, the Hispano Aviación HA-1112 “Buchon” registered as G-AWHE made its first flight in the hands of John Romain. F4U-5NL first post-restoration flight

F4U-5NL BuNo 125541 (F-AZYS) flew its first post-restoration flight on May 5, 2011 with Achim Meier at the controls. The aircraft was previously in F4U-7 configuration and carried French Navy colours. The restoration to its original configuration and colours was carried out by Meier Motors in Germany.

Oldest Stearman back in the air

After crashing in September 2008 and being rebuilt by owner Larry Tobin, Stearman C3B s/n 004 took back to the air on May 1 at Felts Field in Spokane (WA),  thus reclaiming its title of oldest flying Stearman. More information and pictures on AntiqueAirfield.com.

Video: Mosquito 3/4-scale replica maiden flight

The French association Reconstruction Répliques Avions Anciens has succesfully carried out the first flight of its 3/4-scale Mosquito replica. P-40C takes to the air again

On 17 April 2011, a rare P-40C Tomahawk flew again in New Zealand, after a five and a half-year restoration by Avspecs Ltd. Test pilot John Lamont was satisfied with the handling of the aircraft, which has been painted to represent 2Lt. George Welch’s aircraft at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack.
